is
the name of the international network for justice, peace, and the integrity
of creation for the School Sisters of Notre Dame. SHALOM was created in 1992
at the 19th General Chapter in response to the Mandate for Action: |
As a
Congregation, we will establish an international network for justice, peace
and the integrity of creation.
|
| Sister Patricia Flynn, the General Superior at that time,
wrote about this new initiative in a letter to the sisters: |
SHALOM is a call and a challenge to all
School Sisters of Notre Dame to rededicate ourselves to work for justice
on a personal, communal, national, and international level because we
know that the unity we strive for can only be realized in a just
society. In all of its activities, SHALOM will model the principles upon
which it is based: inclusiveness, reconciliation, solidarity, human
dignity, commitment to truth, peace, and care for the earth.
(Circular 54/94)
|
As
School Sisters of Notre Dame, we are motivated, guided, and challenged by
Sacred Scripture, the Social Doctrine of the Church, and our congregational
documents "to risk all in faith for a more just and truly human world.”
Each School Sister of Notre Dame is a member of the
SHALOM network. The
network functions with an international coordinator and five continental
branch representatives in collaboration with contact sisters in 30 countries
where we minister. The SHALOM international office is located at our
Generalate in Rome, Italy.

This is what Yahweh asks of you:
only this,
to ACT JUSTLY,
to LOVE TENDERLY, and
to WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD
