Since its inception in
1995, the Commission for Social Development has been the key body

development and social justice. The 45th Session of the Commission
will take up the promotion of full employment and decent work for
all.
The Commission on the Status of Women was
established in 1946 to provide ECOSOC with recommendations regarding
the promotion of women's rights. The 51st Session of the Commission
will focus its attention on ending all forms of violence and
discrimination against the girl child.
Human Rights Council (HRC)

In 2006, the Human Rights Council replaced
the Commission on Human Rights. During its regular sessions the
Council takes decisions on matters of relevance to human rights in
all regions of the world.
The Commission on Sustainable Development
was created in 1992 to monitor and report on implementation of the
UN conferences and summits on the environment and development. It
promotes dialogue, elaborates policy, and builds partnerships for
sustainable development. CSD-15 will deal with policy formation in
the following areas:
Energy for Sustainable Development;
Industrial Development;
Air Pollution/Atmosphere; and
Climate Change.
The Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues
was established in 2000 and is now an advisory body to ECOSOC with a
mandate to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social
development, culture, the environment, education, health, and human
rights. The special theme of the 6th Session will be territories,
lands, and natural resources.

If you have information or concerns related to the agenda items of
the commissions, or would like to join one of the delegations,
